The highest spot in the area (2590m) is Tiger Hill, 11 kms from
Darjeeling near Ghoom. The hill affords magnificient dawn views
over Kanchenjunga and other eastern Himalayan peaks. Close by is
Senchal Lake which, at a height of 2448m, supplies Darjeeling
with its domestic water. It is a particularly scenic area and
popular as a picnic spot with Indian holiday-makers.
A visit to the Tiger Hills before dawn is a must for all
Darjeeling visitors who want to see sunrise over the Mt
Kanchenjungha. Tiger Hill is 2590 m above sea level and 11 kms
from town (45 min).
Every day a large convoy of battered Land Rovers leaves
Darjeeling at 4.30am, which means that in the smaller lodges you
get woken up at this time every day, whether you like it or not.
It can be very cold and very crowded at the top but coffee is
available. There is a view tower.
